Moving from Loop Habit Tracker to HabitForge
Loop is a free, open-source Android tracker with no account. HabitForge needs a Google sign-in and keeps your records on our servers, so this is the biggest change to weigh first.
Should you move at all?
If you moved to Loop because your data never leaves your phone and there is no account, stay there. HabitForge cannot offer that.
Also check what HabitForge does not do. HabitForge has no iOS app, no home screen widgets and no health sync, and nothing guides you through replacing one habit with another.
The move, step by step
HabitForge has no importer, so this is done by hand.
- Get your list out. In Loop, export your habits to a CSV spreadsheet and keep the file. HabitForge cannot read it, but it is your record of the old numbers and a list to work from.
- Sign in. Open HabitForge and sign in with Google. There is no password to set.
- Add your habits. Add each habit by hand from that list. Loop's habit score and the rope are close cousins: both keep what you kept after a missed day, so the idea will feel familiar. Create a habit has every field.
- Write the loop on the ones that matter. Add the cue, routine and reward to two or three habits first. The rest can stay as a name until you need more.
- Set up what surrounds them. Loop has home screen widgets and HabitForge does not. Set a daily reminder instead, and install the app so it is one tap away.
- Keep both for a week. Your old numbers stay in Loop Habit Tracker. In HabitForge every rope starts as a thread on your first check-in, and that first week is when it looks thinnest.
