Moving from Habitica to HabitForge
Habitica turns tasks into a role-playing game with an avatar, a party and quests. HabitForge has none of that: there is one rope per habit, and it gets thicker as you keep going.
Should you move at all?
If the avatar, the gear and the quests are why you keep going, stay. Nothing here replaces them, and Habitica's source is open while ours is not.
Also check what HabitForge does not do. HabitForge has no iOS app, no home screen widgets and no health sync, and nothing guides you through replacing one habit with another.
The move, step by step
HabitForge has no importer, so this is done by hand.
- Get your list out. Open Habitica and write down the habits you actually still do. Its pages we read do not mention an export, so a plain list on paper is enough. Leave out anything you only kept for the rewards.
- Sign in. Open HabitForge and sign in with Google. There is no password to set.
- Add your habits. Add each one as a new habit. Pick build for something to start, break for something to stop, maintain for something you already do. Create a habit has every field.
- Write the loop on the ones that matter. Add the cue, routine and reward to two or three habits first. The rest can stay as a name until you need more.
- Set up what surrounds them. Your party does not come with you. Friends and challenges are where the people are here.
- Keep both for a week. Your old numbers stay in Habitica. In HabitForge every rope starts as a thread on your first check-in, and that first week is when it looks thinnest.
