Moving from everyday to HabitForge
everyday shows a board of chains on the web, on your phone and in a new browser tab. HabitForge shows a rope per habit, on the web and Android, with no browser extension.
Should you move at all?
If seeing your board on every new tab is what keeps you honest, or you want email reminders, stay. HabitForge has neither.
Also check what HabitForge does not do. HabitForge has no iOS app, no home screen widgets and no health sync, and nothing guides you through replacing one habit with another.
The move, step by step
HabitForge has no importer, so this is done by hand.
- Get your list out. List the habits on your board. The pages we read do not mention an export, so write them down. The free plan there holds 3, and the free plan here holds 30.
- Sign in. Open HabitForge and sign in with Google. There is no password to set.
- Add your habits. Add each one by hand, with its cue and reward if you know them. A skipped day there is close to a paused habit here. Create a habit has every field.
- Write the loop on the ones that matter. Add the cue, routine and reward to two or three habits first. The rest can stay as a name until you need more.
- Set up what surrounds them. A chain goes back to nothing when it breaks. The rope frays and keeps what you kept, so the first missed day will look different from what you are used to.
- Keep both for a week. Your old numbers stay in everyday. In HabitForge every rope starts as a thread on your first check-in, and that first week is when it looks thinnest.
