Reminders and notifications

HabitForge has two separate things that tell you something: a bell inside the app, and reminders your device raises on its own. Both are yours to turn off.

The bell

The bell in the header collects what happened while you were away — an achievement you unlocked, a friend request, a comment on your post, a challenge you joined starting or finishing. Opening it marks what you have read, and the count clears.

Nothing in the bell is sent to you by email or push. It waits until you come back.

The daily reminder

Turn on Daily reminders in Settings and pick a time. Once a day, at that time, your device raises a notification nudging you to check in.

Two things worth knowing:

  • It comes from your device, not from our servers. Your phone schedules it locally, so it arrives whether or not you have a connection, and no reminder times leave your device.
  • One switch covers both channels. There is no separate "push" toggle to find. Turning the switch on asks your device for notification permission the first time — never at launch, and never before you ask for it.

If you deny permission, or turn notifications off for HabitForge at the operating-system level, the switch turns itself back off rather than promising something it cannot deliver.

A reminder for one habit

Each habit can carry its own reminder. Open the habit, switch on Remind me about this habit and pick a time; the nudge arrives at that time on the days that habit is actually due — every day for a daily habit, weekdays only for a weekday one, and just the days you picked for anything else.

  • It is titled with the habit's own name, so a glance at the lock screen tells you what it is for.
  • Pausing the habit stops it. A paused habit is not due, and nudging you about something the app itself has stopped counting would be worse than silence.
  • The same switch governs it. Turning Daily reminders off in Settings turns every per-habit reminder off too — there is no second place to look.
  • One nudge a day at most, per habit, and turning any of them off never affects your streak.

Email

HabitForge sends very little email: a welcome message, the occasional achievement, and a weekly digest carrying your own week. There are no marketing emails.

Turning it all off

  • The bell cannot be turned off, but it never interrupts you — it only fills in.
  • Reminders — the daily one and every per-habit one — are off until you turn them on, and the one switch in Settings turns them all back off.
  • Email preferences live in Settings alongside the reminder.
