Moving from HabitNow to HabitForge
HabitNow is a to-do list, a calendar and a habit tracker in one Android app. HabitForge is only the habit part, so your tasks and calendar would need a home of their own.
Should you move at all?
If you want your to-do list and your habits in the same app, stay. HabitForge will not hold your tasks.
Also check what HabitForge does not do. HabitForge has no iOS app, no home screen widgets and no health sync, and nothing guides you through replacing one habit with another.
The move, step by step
HabitForge has no importer, so this is done by hand.
- Get your list out. In HabitNow, make a backup and keep it. HabitForge cannot read it, but the app's own list of habits is what you are copying from. Leave the one-off tasks behind.
- Sign in. Open HabitForge and sign in with Google. There is no password to set.
- Add your habits. Add each habit by hand. Timers do not carry over: a check-in here is a tick that you did it, with no clock attached. Create a habit has every field.
- Write the loop on the ones that matter. Add the cue, routine and reward to two or three habits first. The rest can stay as a name until you need more.
- Set up what surrounds them. Install the Android app, then set a daily reminder. HabitNow's widgets have no match here.
- Keep both for a week. Your old numbers stay in HabitNow. In HabitForge every rope starts as a thread on your first check-in, and that first week is when it looks thinnest.
