Rope strength
The rope is HabitForge's way of showing how strong a habit is. A brand-new habit is a thin thread; as you keep checking in, it thickens towards a chain. Slip, and it starts to fray. The rope is drawn with D3 and updates as you check in.
What it measures
The rope's strength is a deterministic, client-side calculation — not a machine-learning model and not a prediction. It combines three things:
- Current streak, 40 per cent — how many on-schedule days in a row.
- Average across your habits, 30 per cent — how the rest of your habits are running.
- Done today, 30 per cent — how much of today you have already completed.
Because it is deterministic, the same inputs always produce the same rope. There is no hidden scoring and nothing is guessed about you.
Reading the rope
The rope moves through stages as it strengthens — roughly thread → string → rope → cable → chain. A thin, frayed strand means a habit that is new or recently interrupted; a thick, solid one means a habit you have held for a long time.
Tips
- Watch the trend, not the day. One missed day frays the rope a little; a pattern of misses is what thins it.
- Let the visual be the reminder. For many habits the rope is a stronger cue than a notification.
- Rebuild beats restart. After a slip, a few honest check-ins visibly repair the rope.
Where to next
- Check-ins and streaks — what feeds the rope.
- Levels and points — the account-wide counterpart.
- Analytics — the numbers behind the picture.
